I am recovering from shock at the moment.  It usually takes absolutely ages to get anything going with an educational establishment.  Two weeks ago Get Caerphilly Online had a request for volunteer placements for students at Ystrad Mynach College.  I went to visit Rachel Price, the member of staff in question last Thursday and this Thursday I am giving a presentation to over 30 students to prepare them to open up a Digital Friday drop-in session at Ystrad Mynach library after Easter.  This will be our sixth library to be hosting Digital Fridays currently.  The only problem is that the students are only required to do a total of 15 hours volunteering for their course and are likely to disappear during the holidays.  Of course, we will get a new batch in September, but it does mean that I now need another group of volunteers who will cover the sessions during the summer vacation.  With luck I may be able to mobilise some volunteers from BT, my main funders, who support employee volunteering.

More schools work this week.  Back to Lewis School to lead a session on using search engines; visiting Blackwood Comprehensive's Intergen Club launch and planning a historypin event during Adult Learners Week at Risca Comprehensive.  Fortunately, volunteer recruitment is going well at the moment - but I always seem to need more!

  1. Great to see local colleges getting involved in Caerphilly with the Get IT Together programme.
